Top-level executives from the leading private and public companies throughout the Southwest gathered at the Montelucia Resort & Spa on October 16, 2013 for the eighth annual Southwest CEO Summit.

The conference, sponsored by Columbia West Capital, Comerica Bank, Grant Thornton, Northwestern Mutual and Snell & Wilmer, is an annual invitation-only, private gathering of CEOs, COOs, CFOs and Directors to participate in a forum addressing issues facing today’s business leaders.

This year’s agenda included an exciting line-up of distinguished keynote speakers:

  • Ronald P. Joelson, Executive Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of Northwestern Mutual, spoke at the conference regarding the economy and the dynamics of mapping out risk and return when managing big money in a speech entitled “A Billion Here, a Billion There: Reading the Economy when Managing Big Money.”
  • Daniel M. Mahoney, Partner at Snell & Wilmer, moderated a panel discussion on the Affordable Healthcare Act (“Obamacare”). Panelists included the following experts on this legislation: James Fields, Partner at Oliver Wyman; David Kessenich, Managing Partner of Excellere Partners; and Jennifer Mulloy, Managing Director at TA Associates. Among other questions discussed was how Obamacare will impact businesses’ P&Ls and how companies can best position themselves for this legislation.
  • James Hughes, CEO of First Solar, Inc., discussed the challenges of managing a disruptive technology business.

Following the keynote addresses, attendees joined for a sunset mix and mingle in the beautiful courtyard at the Montelucia Resort.

David Barnett, Managing Director of Columbia West Capital, said: “Each year, the Summit attracts the Southwest’s premier businesses and provides an environment in which C-level executives can network and discuss amongst each other the challenges that face their businesses. Our partners and sponsors have again organized an outstanding event with a line-up of speakers who discussed matters so pertinent to business leaders today.”
